power-ups
Temporary ability boosters
Power-ups are bonus items in video games that temporarily enhance a player's abilities—extra speed, invincibility, stronger weapons.
The term comes from the idea of powering up or gaining energy.
Outside gaming, power-up describes anything that gives a quick boost: Coffee is my morning power-up.
The singular power-up refers to one such item or enhancement.
