enemy waves
Incoming opponent groups
Enemy waves are successive groups of opponents that attack in a video game, typically with brief pauses between them.
The term comes from military language describing assault patterns, but its primary home is gaming—particularly arcade shooters, tower defense, and survival modes where difficulty escalates as waves progress: We barely survived wave twelve.
Each wave usually brings more or tougher enemies than the last.
