posset

Hot milk drink

A posset is a hot drink of milk curdled with wine or ale, often spiced, formerly used as a remedy for colds or as a comfort before bed.

The word survives mainly in historical fiction and recipes attempting to revive old English cookery.

Modern possets are typically chilled cream desserts set with citrus juice.
