Bread and butter pudding is a British baked dessert made from slices of buttered bread layered in a dish, soaked in a custard of eggs, milk, and sugar, then baked until set and golden.
Raisins or sultanas are traditional additions.
It originated as a way to use stale bread: The pub's bread and butter pudding was the best I've ever had.
