political independence
Freedom from foreign rule
Political independence is the condition of a state or territory governing itself without external control.
A nation achieves political independence when it is no longer subject to another power's authority: India gained political independence from Britain in 1947.
The term also applies to individuals or groups operating free from partisan influence: The judge prized her political independence.
