political allegory
State-veiled storytelling
A political allegory is a narrative—novel, film, play, or other work—that uses fictional characters and events to comment on real political situations, movements, or figures.
The surface story operates independently while encoding a parallel critique or commentary: Orwell's *Animal Farm* allegorizes the Russian Revolution, with pigs standing in for Soviet leaders.
The play was read as a political allegory about McCarthyism.
