photostat

Old copying method

Photostat is an old-fashioned term for a photocopy, from the trademarked machine that produced them.

The process created direct photographic copies of documents before modern xerography.

As a verb, to photostat is to make such a copy: I'll photostat these records for you.

The word survives mainly in older legal and bureaucratic contexts.
