Wearable water safety
A personal flotation device is equipment designed to keep a person afloat in water—life jackets, life vests, and similar buoyant gear.
The term appears in safety regulations and product labeling, often abbreviated PFD: Coast Guard regulations require a personal flotation device for each passenger.
In everyday speech, people usually just say life jacket.
