perogies
Filled pasta pockets
Perogies are Eastern European dumplings—pockets of unleavened dough filled with potato, cheese, sauerkraut, meat, or fruit, then boiled or fried.
The word is the anglicized plural of the Polish or Ukrainian original, common in North American regions with Slavic immigrant communities: We had perogies with sour cream and onions.
Also spelled pierogies, pierogi, or pyrohy.
