peripartum

Near birth time

Peripartum refers to the period immediately before and after giving birth—typically a few weeks on either side of delivery.

The term appears most often in medical contexts: peripartum cardiomyopathy, peripartum depression.

It overlaps with but is more precise than postpartum, which covers only the time after birth.
