Music-hating cartoon foes
Blue meanies are the villainous characters in the 1968 animated film *Yellow Submarine*, where they attack Pepperland and drain it of color and music.
The term has become shorthand for oppressive authority figures or killjoys: The blue meanies in management shut down our Friday happy hours.
