pease porridge

Old bean soup

Pease porridge is a thick dish made from boiled split peas, traditionally eaten in Britain.

The name preserves an old plural of pea.

It survives mainly through the nursery rhyme: Pease porridge hot, pease porridge cold, pease porridge in the pot, nine days old.
