padel

Walled tennis variant

Padel is a racket sport combining elements of tennis and squash, played on an enclosed court about a third the size of a tennis court with walls that are in play.

Players use solid, perforated paddles rather than strung rackets, and the ball can bounce off the glass or mesh walls as in squash.

The game is typically played in doubles: We need a fourth for padel tonight.

Originating in Mexico in the 1960s, padel has become enormously popular in Spain and Latin America and is spreading rapidly worldwide.
