overstocking
Too much merchandise
Overstocking is accumulating more inventory or livestock than is optimal or sustainable.
A retailer overstocking merchandise ties up capital in goods that may not sell; a rancher overstocking a pasture risks depleting the grazing land.
The opposite problem is understocking.
Overstocking led to massive markdowns after the holiday season.
