destocking

Clearing out goods

Destocking is reducing inventory or livestock levels.

Businesses destock when they sell off goods without replacing them, often to cut costs or respond to falling demand: Retailers are destocking ahead of the economic downturn.

In agriculture, destocking means reducing herd sizes, particularly during drought when land can't support as many animals.
