underprint
Faint base layer
Underprint refers to printing that appears beneath or behind other printed matter, often as a background design or security feature.
In philately, an underprint is a faint pattern printed on stamps before the main design to prevent counterfeiting or reuse.
The term also describes text or images printed too lightly: The underprint was barely visible against the paper.
