outer planets

Jupiter and beyond

The outer planets are the four largest planets in our solar system—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—orbiting beyond the asteroid belt.

Also called gas giants or Jovian planets, they contrast with the inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars), which are smaller and rocky.

The outer planets all have ring systems and numerous moons.
