oni

Horned folklore fiend

An oni is a demon or ogre in Japanese folklore, typically depicted as large, fearsome creatures with horns, wild hair, and fangs, often carrying iron clubs.

Oni appear in traditional tales as malevolent spirits who punish the wicked or terrorize villages.

In contemporary use, oni feature prominently in anime, manga, and video games: The final boss was an oni with massive horns.
