octopi
Ink-squirting sea creatures
Octopi is a plural of octopus, though octopuses is more standard in English.
The word octopus comes from Greek, making octopi—which follows Latin pluralization rules—technically a hypercorrection.
All three plurals (octopuses, octopi, octopodes) see use, but octopi remains common despite pedantic objections: The aquarium houses several octopi.
