occupied zone
Enemy-held region
An occupied zone is territory controlled by a foreign military force, typically following conquest or as part of a postwar arrangement.
The term evokes images of checkpoints, curfews, and restricted movement: Life in the occupied zone meant constant surveillance.
In building design, the occupied zone refers to the area where people actually live and work—the space that heating and cooling systems must keep comfortable, usually from floor level to about six feet high.
