oblateness

Equatorial bulge measure

Oblateness is the quality of being flattened at the poles, like a sphere that's been slightly squished.

The term appears most often in astronomy and physics, describing planets and stars that bulge at the equator due to rotation: Earth's oblateness is slight but measurable.

The opposite quality—elongation along the polar axis—is prolateness.
