nullity

State of nonexistence

Nullity is the state of being legally void or having no force.

A marriage can be declared a nullity, as though it never existed.

More broadly, nullity describes something without substance or importance—a person of no consequence, an argument without merit: His objections amounted to nullity.

The word carries a sense of emptiness more absolute than mere invalidity.
