nonproduction
Lack of output
Nonproduction refers to the failure or absence of producing something, or to activities and roles that don't directly involve manufacturing or creating goods.
In business contexts, nonproduction often distinguishes support functions from direct output: nonproduction costs, nonproduction workers.
The term can also describe periods when nothing is being made: The factory's nonproduction during the strike cost millions.
