nanoengineering
Building extremely small
Nanoengineering is the branch of engineering that designs and builds structures, devices, and systems at the nanometer scale—roughly one to one hundred billionths of a meter.
At this scale, materials behave differently than they do in bulk, allowing for innovations in medicine, electronics, and materials science.
Nanoengineers might create drug-delivery systems that target specific cells, or develop stronger and lighter materials by manipulating matter at the atomic level.
