music halls

Victorian entertainment venues

Music halls were entertainment venues popular in Britain from the mid-19th to early 20th century, featuring variety acts—singers, comedians, acrobats, and novelty performers.

The term also describes this style of entertainment: old music hall songs, music hall comedy.

American equivalents were called vaudeville theaters.

The format declined with the rise of cinema and radio.
