minibeast
Tiny garden creature
Minibeast is a British term, mainly used in primary education, for small invertebrates like insects, spiders, worms, and snails.
It's a friendly, accessible word that avoids scientific terminology when teaching young children about nature: We went on a minibeast hunt in the garden.
The term rarely appears in American English or adult scientific contexts.
