mini disc
Small digital recording
A mini disc is a small optical storage medium, about 2.5 inches across, developed by Sony in the early 1990s for recording and playing digital audio.
It offered recordable capability when CDs were still read-only, making it popular with musicians and audio enthusiasts for portable recording.
The format never achieved mainstream success in the US but thrived in Japan before being displaced by MP3 players and digital storage.
