corn dolly
Woven grain sculpture
A corn dolly is a figure woven from straw or dried grain stalks, traditionally made at harvest time in Britain and other European countries.
The practice originated in folk belief that the spirit of the grain lived in the crop and needed a home through winter.
Modern corn dollies are decorative crafts: She learned to make corn dollies at the county fair.
