rich text
Beyond plain characters
Rich text is text that includes formatting—bold, italics, fonts, colors, sizes, and other visual styling—as opposed to plain text, which contains only characters.
Word processors produce rich text; basic text editors don't.
The term appears in file formats like RTF (Rich Text Format) and in interface elements: The email composer supports rich text.
