mandrills
Colorful-faced monkeys
Mandrills are large, powerfully built monkeys native to the rainforests of central Africa.
The males are among the most colorful mammals, with bright red and blue ridged faces and rumps that intensify with social dominance.
Despite their fearsome appearance and large fangs, mandrills are primarily shy and avoid confrontation.
They live in groups called hordes that can number in the hundreds.
