lyceums
Public speaking venues
Lyceums are institutions for popular education, offering lectures, concerts, and other public programs.
The term comes from the grove in Athens where Aristotle taught.
In 19th-century America, the lyceum movement brought speakers and debates to local communities: The lyceum circuit made celebrities of writers and reformers.
Today the word is mostly historical or used for certain schools and cultural venues.
