longarms

Guns with stocks

Longarms are firearms with extended barrels designed to be braced against the shoulder when firing—rifles, shotguns, and similar weapons.

The term distinguishes them from handguns, which are held in one hand.

The sheriff's department confiscated several longarms from the property.

Also spelled as two words: long arms.
