light pen

CRT input device

A light pen is a handheld pointing device used with older computer monitors, shaped like a pen and connected by a cable.

The user touches it to the screen to select items or draw, with the pen detecting light from the display to determine position.

Light pens were common in the 1970s and 80s but were superseded by the mouse and touchscreens.
