ligations
Knots in vessels
Ligations is the plural of ligation, the act of tying or binding something off.
In medicine, ligation refers to surgically tying a blood vessel or duct to close it: tubal ligation is a sterilization procedure that ties off the fallopian tubes.
In molecular biology, ligation joins DNA fragments together using enzymes: The ligations failed, so we had to repeat the cloning experiment.
