T4

Immune system soldier

T4 is a thyroid hormone, thyroxine, the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland.

It regulates metabolism, energy, and growth throughout the body.

Blood tests measure T4 levels to diagnose thyroid disorders: Her T4 was low, indicating hypothyroidism.

T4 converts to the more active T3 in tissues.

The name comes from its four iodine atoms.
