late pass
Excuse for tardiness
A late pass is permission to arrive after a deadline has passed—originally a physical slip from school officials excusing a student's tardiness.
In slang, it extends to any forgiveness for being behind: You're just now watching that show? I'll give you a late pass since you were deployed.
Often appears in the negative: No late pass for missing her birthday.
