last emperor
Dynasty's closing ruler
The last emperor of a dynasty or nation is the final ruler before the monarchy ends—through revolution, conquest, or abolition.
The phrase often refers specifically to Puyi, China's last emperor, who ascended the throne at age two and was deposed in 1912: The Last Emperor won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Any final monarch may be called a last emperor: Nicholas II was Russia's last emperor.
