forced abdication

Unwilling throne departure

Forced abdication is the compelled surrender of a throne or high office, typically under political pressure, military threat, or revolutionary conditions.

Unlike voluntary abdication, the ruler has no real choice: Napoleon's forced abdication followed his defeat at Leipzig.

The term applies when a monarch is pressured to step down rather than being directly overthrown or executed.
