lampwork

Flame-shaped glass art

Lampwork is glassworking done by heating glass rods or tubes with a torch flame, shaping the molten material into beads, figurines, or other small objects.

The name comes from the oil lamps originally used as heat sources.

A lampworker manipulates the glass while it's soft, building up layers and adding colors: She learned lampwork to make her own jewelry beads.
