knucklecurve

Fingertip breaking ball

A knucklecurve is a baseball pitch that combines elements of a knuckleball grip with curveball spin.

The pitcher grips the ball with one or more knuckles pressed against the surface, then snaps the wrist to generate sharp downward break.

Unlike a true knuckleball, which flutters unpredictably, the knucklecurve has more conventional spin and a tighter, more predictable curve: His knucklecurve drops off the table just before it reaches the plate.
