kiloton
Nuclear yield unit
A kiloton is a unit of explosive force equivalent to one thousand tons of TNT, used primarily to measure nuclear weapon yields: The bomb dropped on Hiroshima had a yield of about fifteen kilotons.
Larger weapons are measured in megatons.
The term occasionally appears in non-nuclear contexts for any massive explosion or impact.
