keylight

Dominant light source

The keylight is the primary light source in photography, film, or video production—the dominant illumination that establishes the scene's basic exposure and shadows.

Other lights (fill, back, rim) work in relation to the keylight: Position the keylight at a 45-degree angle to the subject.

Also spelled as two words: key light.
