kalimbas

Plucked metal tines

Kalimbas is the plural of kalimba, a handheld African musical instrument consisting of metal tines mounted on a wooden board or resonator box.

You play it by plucking the tines with your thumbs, producing soft, bell-like tones.

Also called a thumb piano or mbira, though mbira technically refers to related but distinct instruments from Zimbabwe.
