juvenile diabetes
Young-onset insulin dependency
Juvenile diabetes is the older name for type 1 diabetes, so called because it typically appears in childhood or adolescence.
The pancreas produces little or no insulin, requiring lifelong insulin therapy.
The term has fallen out of favor since adults can also develop the condition: She was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age eight.
