504 plan
School support document
A 504 plan is a formal document outlining accommodations for students with disabilities in U.S. public schools.
Named after Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, it ensures equal access to education without requiring special education placement: Her 504 plan allows extra time on tests.
Common accommodations include preferential seating, modified assignments, or breaks for medical needs.
Unlike an IEP, a 504 plan doesn't provide specialized instruction—just removes barriers.
