island chain
Linked landmass series
An island chain is a series of islands extending in a line or arc, typically formed by the same geological process—volcanic activity along a tectonic boundary or a moving hotspot beneath the ocean floor.
The Hawaiian Islands and the Aleutian Islands are classic examples.
The typhoon swept across the island chain.
