ionised

Atoms lost electrons

Ionised is the British spelling of ionized.

An atom or molecule becomes ionised when it gains or loses electrons, acquiring an electric charge.

The term appears in chemistry, physics, and medicine: ionised calcium levels in the blood, ionised gas in the upper atmosphere.

Radiation that can strip electrons from atoms is called ionising radiation.
