iodization

Adding essential element

Iodization is the process of adding iodine to something, most commonly salt.

Public health programs introduced iodized salt in the early twentieth century to prevent goiter and other iodine-deficiency disorders.

The term also applies to adding iodine to water supplies or other substances for health or chemical purposes.
