iodizing

Treating with halogen

Iodizing is adding iodine to something, most commonly salt.

Table salt is routinely iodized to prevent iodine deficiency, which can cause thyroid problems: Check the label to see if the salt is iodized.

The practice became widespread in the early twentieth century as a public health measure.
