impalement
Death by stake
Impalement is execution or torture by piercing the body with a sharp stake or pole.
The method appears throughout history, most infamously associated with Vlad the Impaler.
More broadly, impalement is any penetration by a pointed object: The fall resulted in impalement on a fence post.
In heraldry, impalement is the side-by-side arrangement of two coats of arms on a single shield.
